Post Welcome to Geek Republic!
Welcome all, to Geek Republic!

I understand that many of you might be taken aback by the sudden change, so let me explain.

Nearly 5 years ago, Team Hack-a-Day was founded as a place for readers of the Hack-a-Day blog to gather and work together as a team for further the goals of Stanford's Folding@Home project. We did quite well and rapidly rose through the ranks, leaving many teams in our path.

As time has passed however, the folding landscape has changed dramatically. As the game changed, many members lost interest and left the project. Following suit, things around here have slowed down over the last few years. While we still wholeheartedly support the Folding@Home project and have quite a few active folders, a handful of us thought it might be time for a bit of change.

From that desire to shake things up, Geek Republic was born. Our goal is to cover everything Geek-related under the sun. We want Geek Republic to be similar to your geeky cube-mate who shows you the coolest new videos, shares the latest tech news, and gives you the best tech tips around. If it's geeky and newsworthy, you will find it here.

We are putting a lot of focus on the blog portion of the site, but we will still remain active here in the forums as well as in the chat room.

Kick back and stay awhile - see what Geek Republic has to offer. If you have not visited recently, you might just find that you missed Team Hack-a-Day and that you like our new look even more.

-Mike (aka DrNathan)

Good looking new site here DrN! Question: Will THaD remain and mirror to this site or is it scheduled to fade away/be retired?

Not only did the forum get transferred, but user names and logins too, cool. Nicely done.

Geek republic eh? Looks quite worthwhile! I visited THAD just yesterday with its old face and didn't see this until I checked email this morning. Nice use of the "On" icon (is it copyrighted, though?).

So, when does the F@H "blitz" start? We still need HAD front-page re-mention.

Thanks stevew, I have been working hard at getting things transferred over.

Geek Republic is a chance to try a different branding, which allows us to branch out beyond only "hacks" to include all things Geek/Tech related.

PocketBrains - The "On" icon is not copyrighted in this form as far as I know. I believe it is in the UK, but not here. We'll use it until instructed otherwise.

I would guess a F@H blitz will start when people swing by the new forum. Everyone that was a member at the old site will be receiving an email letting them know about the new one. Hopefully it will spark some new interest. As for myself, I just don't have hardware that makes me anywhere near competitive. We'll see though.

Regarding the Team Hack-a-Day site, it will dissolve at some point in the future. The forums have been copied here as stevew mentioned, but both are technically operating independently of one another. The domain name is not held by yours truly, and I believe a permanent expiration of the domain will occur sometime in the next year. Technically, we have been "borrowing" the HaD logo and name for almost 5 years now, but the ability to do so legally has never really been clear. As such, we are moving onwards and upwards in our own way.
