They have previously used:
Linksys
WRT54G (pre-v5)
WRT54GL
WRT54GS
WRT54GSv4
Buffalo
WZR-RS-G54
WHR-HP-54
WHR-G54S
However, this new batch may be made by Accton Technology.
On June 7, 2006 Accton announced that it signed an agreement with FON for the production of WiFi base stations and related products.
Edit: According to Dr Nathan's link they are made by Accton

So do I need a router to hook this up, or would a switch work?

My dad won't let me get one he says it's unethical to flash different firmware onto it!

That's why I'm just going to run it.
Hopefully I can get a good enough antenna on it to reach both the park that's close to me and the light rail station.

However, if they started putting out WRTs again I think my status as an ethically upstanding gentleman would vanish.

(1.21 gigawatts) / (88 miles per hour) = 30757874 newtons

Well, reaching one is better than reaching neither!

Yes it is, each one is about 600 feet away, I think I'll try a huge omnidirection antenna fist and see what kind of distance I can get.

i know that the broadcast power of the new fon routers are only 63mW. which is quite small compared to 251mW potential of a WRT54G. im interested as to what kind of distance can be achieved with this newer fon router

Well the stock Xmit power for a WRT is 28 mW so I bet it'll do just fine.

It sounds like some research on overclocking and cooling is in order...
