Post AA shaped rechargable batteries that are actually good?
I'm tired of paying out the Yin-Yang for Lithium batteries, and tired of NiMH's self-discharge. Is there a good AA sized battery that is rechargable, 2500mAh+, and doesn't discharge on its own without being used that you would recommend?

This is pending my camera isn't dead, as it acted weird last time I tried it, though it could have been because it was around 10-20 days since I last charged the batteries.

Edit: camera is dead... It won't save pictures to memory(internal or SD card), usually gets stuck to where you can't do anything without removing batteries. :( Oh well, gives me an excuse to take it apart...

Edit2: camera in state of quantum uncertainty... I got it to take pictures and save them again by formatting the internal memory (how the heck does that help with SD cards is beyond me). But now there are other issues, like recently taken pictures showing up excessively dark in preview, but when zoomed on the camera look just fine.

All for One and One for all! - 3 Musketeers

Seriously good sounding battery charger review, guy's had it for 7 years. I've been zinging through AA and AAA batteries and have been seriously thinking of one of these $40 units.

Quote:
The newest of the new chargers claim to be able to charge Ni-Cad, NiMH, AND Alkaline in the same unit. (Don't know if this means mixed types at the same time.)

I've recharged regular alkaline batteries with a rechargeable alkaline recharger, I also used an old battery tester.
I don't know where it is right now and I've been getting 4 AAs or 6 AAAs for a buck lately.

Problem is that normal Alkaline AA won't power my camera with flash.

Dunno if the question is still relevant, but I use standard Energizer NiMH 2500 mAh AAs in my Wii controllers and digital camera: http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-NH15BP- ... B00000J47L

I just charge them with an old AA charger that originally came with my crap-ass Sony Cybershot, and everything has worked flawlessly for over a year. Believe you me, rechargables are the way to go if you go through batteries like I do.

Edit:

Not that I've ever use the following batteries, but I noticed in the review of the Energizers that they actually have an abysmal self-discharge rate. A guy who did some independent tests recommends the Rayovac "Hybrid" MiMH (http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-Hybrid-Ba ... B000LPTDQQ) while at only 2100 mAh they truly hold their charge up to 4x longer than the conventional rechargable NiMH batteries. When my current set gives up the ghost I may invest in some of these.

Bing city pock new forum record!

I have a friend who works at a "Big Box" store and she gets me a 50 pack for 6$ with her discount. I like being as green as the next person but this saves me cheddar.

I was wondering about your earlier price statement. Yeah, I'd go for it too at that price. Instead I'm going to follow PocketLnet's suggestion and spring for some decent NiMH ones with the correct charger.

The Rayovac "Hybrid" NiMH cells look interesting. I think I saw these at Wal-Mart before. The capacity is the main thing holding me back, as cheap 2000mAh NiHM cells I picked up earlier won't power the flash for more than a few shots. Though, I don't think the package said anything about being for 'high-drain' devices, so that may be more of an issue than capacity.

My camera is working now, it turned up being a combination of batteries being too low (these cells haven't been cycled four times as recommended, and were left idle for several days), internal memory corruption, and my 256MB SD card I got about four years ago hitting its write limit.
